A small growth has been detected in PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's kidney, his daughter Nurul Nuha Anwar revealed tonight.

Speaking at a forum at the KL Chinese Assembly Hall, the said her father underwent a minor procedure this morning at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, where a small polyp in his kidney was detected.

"Hopefully, it is not cancerous as it is very small," she said, adding that a histopathology would be carried out soon to determine the true nature of the polyp.

According to her, Anwar had been experiencing irregular blood pressure and black stools for some weeks now.

She also said that while his deteriorating health condition was brought to the attention of the prison doctor, Anwar still had to wait for clearance from Home Minister Zahid Hamidi before proper medical treatment could be sought at the hospital.

She also said her family had written numerous times to the doctor and prison authorities but ended up waiting three weeks before the Home Ministry gave Anwar clearance to go to hospital.

Anwar underwent an MRI scan and had an X-ray taken for a bad shoulder on Tuesday and is due back in prison tomorrow, Nurul Nuha said, adding that biopsy results will only be out next week.

Speaking on behalf of her family, she pleaded with the Home Minister to refrain from denying her father medical attention in the future and to put politics aside in view of her father's fragile health at this moment.

The former Opposition Leader is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for sodomy.

Anwar discharged from Hospital Kuala Lumpur

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been discharged from Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) and will be continuing treatment at Sungai Buloh Prison.

“Praise God, the doctor has allowed me to leave. I will continue my treatment at Sungai Buloh Prison while waiting on the results of the medical test,” tweeted Anwar on Friday.

Anwar was admitted to HKL on Tuesday for a series of scheduled test.

According to his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Anwar had to undergo an investigative scope to determine the source of his bloody stool.

After visiting her husband on Tuesday, she told reporters that Anwar has lost weight and looked “skinny and gaunt”.

The former opposition leader is also said to be suffering from high blood pressure and chronic shoulder pain.

Anwar was jailed in February for five years on charges that he sodomized a former male aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008, a case he claims was fabricated by the government.

Today marks day 110 of the unjust and politically motivated incarceration of Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Amnesty International has declared him as a prisoner of conscience.

While his spirit remains indefatigable, we have observed that for some weeks now Datuk Seri Anwar has shown visible loss of weight. We have been informed by his family and his team of lawyers who have seen him in prison that he has lost up to 6 kgs to date which is very worrying if that weight loss continues. The party leaders are also informed that he has presence of blood regularly in his stool which requires urgent medical assessment and treatment. Datuk Seri Anwar’s blood pressure has also been irregular and was recently as high as 163/108 despite being on medication.

On top of all this, he is suffering from a full thickness tear of his right shoulder capsule ( from an injury which took place a year ago ) and which still causes him pain and discomfort now in detention. This injury requires an MRI scan, treatment, and possibly even surgery, for a full recovery.

We are also informed that Datuk Seri Anwar has made repeated requests for medical treatment and hospitalisation which regrettably have been delayed. Even a simple request for an MRI on his shoulder had seen no response for many weeks. We acknowledge however that he has received a number of visits by doctors sent from the Ministry of Health who were monitoring his condition.

However we were informed by his lawyers who had visited him over the last two days that he will finally be hospitalised on Tuesday 2nd June 2015 at HKL for a full check up, observation and treatment.

KEADILAN and the family regrets that his hospitalisationhas been delayed. We demand that Datuk Seri Anwar be given the full medical attention and care that he requires. The Home Minister Datuk Zahid Hamidi must guarantee that Datuk Seri Anwar will be allowed to remain in hospital for as long as it takes for a thorough evaluation of his health and for all necessary treatment to be given.

Anything less would be a further violation of his rights as a political prisoner.

The party will be seeking regular updates on his health through his family and lawyers who must be given full access to him during his hospitalisation.

Anwar wins bid to strike out Nalla’s statement

The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya today granted Anwar Ibrahim's application to strike out the majority judgment on his sodomy case in 1998 that Senator S Nallakaruppan and two others used in their defence statements in the RM100 million suit Anwar filed against them.

Leading the three-judge panel, Justice Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim said they unanimously allowed this appeal and set aside the decision of the High Court.

The other two judges were Justice David Wong Dak Wah and Justice Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim.

The court also dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the three defendants and ordered them to pay RM15,000 as costs to Anwar.

On Dec 26, 2012, High Court Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera allowed Nallakaruppan, Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd and its editor-in-chief Abdul Aziz Ishak to retain most of their statements of defence in case.

The only part that the judicial commissioner struck out was the plea of justification.

Lawyer Muhammad Asmirul Asraf Fadli, who represented Utusan, told reporters that the decision was based on Section 43 of the Evidence Act, which prohibits the evidence of previous convictions to be used in civil case.

On March 26, 2012, Anwar filed a suit against the three defendants over Nallakaruppan's statements in a front-page article of Utusan Malaysia on March 20, titled 'Anwar biseksual, tak boleh jadi Ketua Pembangkang – Nalla' (Anwar is bisexual, can't be Opposition Leader – Nalla).

Anwar's statement of claim said the words in the article were false, baseless and published with malicious intent.

He is seeking RM100 million in general, aggravated and exemplary damages, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.

CHINA PINTAS MELALUI TERUSAN KRA ISTHMUS, THAILAND?
Ancaman buat Selat Melaka, Malaysia

1. Tersebar berita yang masih ditahap memerlukan pengesahan berhubung pembinaan Terusan Kra. Ia menjadi viral apabila dilaporkan oleh portal China Daily Mail semalam (17 Mei 2015) bahawa suatu memorandum kerjasama telah ditandatangani bersama oleh pelbagai pengusaha perniagaan di Guangzhou, China untuk membina sebuah terusan sepanjang 102 kilometer dengan kelebaran 400 meter dan kedalaman 25 meter di Kra Isthmus, Thailand.

2. Portal itu sebelum ini, pada 16 Mac 2014 telah menjelaskan antara kewajaran China memerlukan laluan alternatif dengan pembinaan Terusan Kra Isthmus adalah kerana laluan perdagangan ke Lautan Hindi melalui Selat Melaka mempunyai masalah lanun, bangkai kapal, jerebu, mendapan dan beting. Kadar kemalangan pula dilaporkan dua kali lebih tinggi berbanding di Terusan Suez dan empat kali lebih tinggi berbanding di Terusan Panama.

3. Sejauh mana ketepatan berita tersebut memerlukan satu pengesahan kerana ia tidak dilaporkan secara meluas oleh portal berita ternama dan lebih berkredibiliti. Namun, berita cadangan terusan ini sudah lama berlegar dan dibicarakan tetapi masih tertangguh sehingga kini. Apa yang perlu ialah kita meninjau kesannya terhadap Malaysia.

4. Jika benar, dengan pembinaan Terusan Kra Isthmus ini, kapal-kapal boleh memintas Selat Melaka dan memendekkan perjalanan mereka sebanyak 1200 kilometer. Pembinaan ini akan memberi keuntungan yang besar kepada negara-negara yang terpaksa melalui Selat Melaka sebelum ini untuk aktiviti perdagangan dengan negara-negara Timur Tengah dan Eropah.

5. Sebelum ini, Selat Melaka sebagai jalan penghubung laut utama mahu dikuasai oleh pelbagai negara termasuklah Amerika Syarikat, China, Jepun dan India kerana kedudukannya yang strategik untuk penguasaan ekonomi.

6. Sebagai contoh, Jepun mengimport hampir 80% bekalan minyaknya dari Timur Tengah melalui Selat Melaka. Ditambah lagi dengan keadaan kepulauan negaranya, memiliki sumber yang terhad, jarak yang jauh dengan negara pembekal tenaga, bahan mentah dan makanan, maka Jepun sangat memberikan perhatian yang tinggi terhadap keselamatan lebih 50% produk-produk perniagaannya yang diangkut melalui pelayaran di selat itu.

7. China, yang merupakan kekuatan baru di Asia juga sangat bergantung kepada Selat Melaka untuk aktiviti perdagangan dan pengangkutan tenaga. Kini, sekitar 60% minyak mentah yang diimport China bersal dari Timur Tengah dan angka ini sebelum ini diunjurkan akan meningkat kepada 75% pada tahun 2015. Minyak dari Teluk Parsi dan Afrika dihantar ke China melalui Selat Melaka (72%), Lombok atau Makassar.

8. Dianggarkan lebih 60,000 buah kapal berlayar melintasi selat ini pada setiap tahun dan putaran wang di selat ini pula ialah antara AS$84 bilion hingga AS$250 bilion setahun.

9. Dilihat daripada aspek ini, tidak hairanlah Pelabuhan Kelang sebelum ini berada pada kedudukan ke-13 pelabuhan kontena dunia dan berjaya menghubungkan Malaysia dengan lebih dari 500 pelabuhan di 120 buah negara di seluruh dunia sehingga berupaya mengendalikan lebih dari 49.3% daripada jumlah kendalian oleh pelabuhan-pelabuhan persekutuan di Semenanjung Malaysia pada tahun 2009.

10. Apa yang pasti ialah apabila Terusan Kra Isthmus benar-benar dibina ia bakal menghubungkan secara terus negara-negara seperti Jepun dan China dengan negara-negara Timur Tengah dan Afrika tanpa lagi melalui Selat Melaka, justeru bakal memberi kesan yang ketara kepada Pelabuhan Kelang dan ekonomi negara.

11. Persoalannya ialah jika berlaku, apakah persiapan negara dan usaha-usaha yang dilakukan Kerajaan dalam menghadapi perubahan laluan perdagangan antarabangsa ini? Projek ini tentu menguntungkan Thailand dan Cina terutamanya namun apakah pula kesannya kepada negara???
